Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio( The Flying Wrestler)

Óscar Gutiérrez (born December 11, 1974), better known by the ring name Rey Misterio, Jr. in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and Rey Mysterio in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), is a Mexican - American professional wrestler currently signed to WWE wrestling on its SmackDown! brand.

Mysterio is known for having a high flying style, which helped kick-start the cruiserweight revolution in the United States of America in the late 1990s - during his time in WCW.

Born in San Diego, California, Gutiérrez trained for pro wrestling with his uncle, Rey Misterio, Sr.. He debuted as a wrestler on April 30, 1989 at the age of 14 in a small church in Tijuana, Mexico. Technically, he was too young to receive a license, but enforcement was generally low. He began a feud with Psicosis (who had also been trained by Rey Misterio, Sr.) using the ring name Colibrí (Spanish for hummingbird). The feud lasted several years, continuing even after Gutiérrez's career moved to the U.S.
When Gutiérrez turned 18, his uncle allowed him to use the ring name Rey Misterio, Jr.. In Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) he feuded with Juventud Guerrera including a tag match with Rey Misterio Jr. and Sr. taking on Juventud and his father, Fuerza Guerrera.

At Superbrawl IX Mysterio, alongside with Konnan would lose a tag team "hair vs. mask match" against the The Outsiders forcing Rey Mysterio, Jr. to remove his mask. After the match, he phoned his uncle to tell him of the news.Mysterio would later become a "giant killer" by scoring upset victories over towering, powerhouse performers like Kevin Nash, Bam Bam Bigelow, The Giant, and Scott Norton. He would also begin a successful tag team with Billy Kidman and join Master P's No Limit Soldiers. After Master P's departure from WCW, a new stable known as the Filthy Animals formed including Konnan, Eddie Guerrero, Kidman, and Mysterio.

In WCW, one of his theme songs was Latin rapper Mad One's "Ashes to Ashes" (while part of the Filthy Animals stable).
In WWE, his theme song was a theme called "Jumpin Out The Sky". It was later changed to a Mysterio and Mad One original entitled "Booyaka 619".
This was made more personal, as he collaborated with the Christian nu metal band P.O.D. to create a new version of "Booyaka 619", which P.O.D. would perform live at WrestleMania 22. The studio version is included on the Wreckless Intent album. Rey uses a modified version of this song as his theme, which retains the intro from the original "Booyaka 619".

the high flying underdog

persoanal life
Mysterio went to high school with two members of the rock band P.O.D, who also preform his theme song, "Booyaka 619" Mysterio has numerous tattoos, including his children's names, his best friend Eddie, his wife Angie's name, various designs, his masks, and the word "Mexican" on his stomach. He also has tattooed a large spine onto his back. His most recent tatoos include a rosary on his chest, and the words "Made Man" and "By God" on the top and bottom of his wrists, respectively.
On March 19, 2007, Sports Illustrated posted on its website an article in its continuing series investigating a steroid and HGH ring used by a number of professional athletes in several sports. That article mentioned several current and former WWE wrestlers, including Mysterio who was alleged to have obtained nandrolone and stanozolol. WWE has since made a statement on this situation, mentioning that the allegations preceded the Talent Wellness program WWE launched in February 2006.
On July 11, 2007, it was revealed that Rey Mysterio was a patient of Dr. Phil Astin, personal physician of Chris Benoit, who is currently being investigated by police officials.
During his reign as World Heavyweight Champion, the title was often referred to as the "World Championship" due to Mysterio not technically being a heavyweight.
He is a close friend of Chavo Guerrero Jr. He and Chavo Jr. have wrestled together in numerous matches in both WCW and WWE.

Mask

For almost all WWE appearances, Mysterio keeps his face covered by a variety of masks. The colors of the masks vary, and he also wears contact lenses to match the color of his ring attire which sometimes makes it appear as if Mysterio has only pupils and no iris.
Mysterio has been unmasked two times while in WWE. The most recent occurred during SummerSlam 2006 where his entire mask came off as the result of a punch delivered by Chavo Guerrero but Mysterio covered his face with his hands until he could put his mask on again. He also removed his mask in his testimonial video on the Eddie Guerrero RAW tribute show, but put his head down so nobody could see his unmasked face. There was another occurance on a Friday Night Smackdown! episode in a match with Eddie Guerrero when Eddie ripped open Rey's mask almost in half, but the mask remained on Rey's head. You could see some of his head but not all of it. Then he got suplexed onto the steel steps.
WWE refuses to replay matches of Mysterio while he was unmasked in WCW. Also, on the WWE Home Video Rey Mysterio: 619, when any candid footage is shown where Rey is not wearing a mask (for example, the WWE Confidential segment wherein Rey gives WWE cameras a tour of his home), his face is censored. There was also a segment during WWE Tough Enough where Rey visited the contestants at their training facility, and removed his mask during an emotional speech to the contestants.
